on proposed legislation. The Bill Evaluator reviews legislative bills and makes recommendations to the Educational Law/Policy Committee.

Information on bills receiving endorsement from at least three evalutors and the Policy Committee is disseminated to members for advocacy.

    RECOGNITION

DKG members spotlighted for their advocacy work.sy.

    Bev Johns picture (1).jpg

Bev Johns, a member of DKG Illinois, has advocated since the early days of Special Education for ALL legislation  and continues to do so in retirement.
Bev served as legislative chair in Illinois for five biennia, initiating
publication of a monthly summary of bills before the Illinois legislature for DKG members. Additionally she organized trips for members to meet with state legislators and trained them on how to talk with legislators.
Bev went on to serve as state president and as NW Regional Representative to the U.S. Forum Steering Committee (2022-2024).

Bev has stories to share of meeting with the White House Chief of Staff when special education funding was threatened as well as with numerous members of Congress. She even rode the Senate trolley with Senator Bob Dole and used the opportunity to give her elevator speech. Bev's advocacy lessons are interesting and may be read by clicking on this link: Bev Johns legislative advocacy.

To recommend a program or advocacy idea or an individual DKG member for advocacy recognition, email the U.S. Forum webmaster.
